Mahalasa Narayani Temple Verna
The Mahalasa Narayani Temple is located in Verna Industrial Estate, Verna (South Goa) about 24 km from the state capital Panaji. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Mahalasa, also known as Mohini, the female avatar of Lord Vishnu. The temple is devoted to the powerful and revered Hindu goddess Mahalasa Narayani, who is thought to be a form of the Mother Goddess Shakti.

This Temple Has been built at 2 places in Goa. One is at Verna and the other is at Mardol Ponda Goa. The temple was originally located in Varenyapur (now Verna) until it was destroyed by Portuguese invaders in 1567 AD. The temple was later reconstructed in Mardol, Ponda, where it stands today as a significant place of worship for devotees, especially Goud Saraswat Brahmins and Vaishnavas from Goa and South Canara.
The story behind the arrival of Mahalasa Narayani in Goa is that she came from Nevase to Verna in Goa. Before Nevase, there was a temple dedicated to Mohini in Nepal. Mahalasa Narayani is believed to have settled in Goa after being in Nevase, which is in present-day Maharashtra.
This divine goddess is worshipped as the powerful family deity of many Hindus in western and southern India, especially in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala. The most famous temple dedicated to Mahalasa Narayani is in Mardol, Goa, which is over 450 years old

The temple complex is surrounded by well-maintained lawns, adding to its serene and peaceful atmosphere. On one side of the temple, there is a school for children, while on the other side, there is a Kalyanmandapa or a hall for weddings.
Outside the temple, there’s a 64 Yogini Temple wherein 64 Yoginis are arranged in a circular pattern around the main shrine. These figures symbolize powerful female energies and play a significant role in the temple’s spiritual ambiance. These yoginis add a unique spiritual element to the temple.

Navratri is the biggest festival celebrated at this temple. The annual Mahalasa Devi celebration takes place from Shashthi to Ashtami, or from the 6th to the 8th of the Krishna Paksha in the Chaitra month. This would take place immediately after the Chaitra Navaratri.
